The manufacturing industry is constantly evolving, creating a growing need for a skilled, adaptable workforce. However, many manufacturing companies face challenges in attracting applicants—not because the talent isn’t out there, but because many young professionals are unaware of the rewarding career paths available in our industry.
Manufacturing is no longer a low-tech industry. Just about every aspect of manufacturing now uses technology based tools in the production of everything used in today’s world. Whether we are making an injected molded housing used in the electronic sector or machining a part to fly into space, there is not a step that does not rely upon technology-based tools, including artificial intelligence.
At Leech Industries, we’re dedicated to ensuring that the next generation of manufacturing professionals understand the great career opportunities available. We offer meaningful opportunities for young people to launch fulfilling careers through hands-on experience, on-the-job training and company-paid training programs. By fostering the growth of new talent, we help individuals succeed while building a strong, skilled U.S.A.-based manufacturing workforce.
Our Long-Standing History of Apprenticeships
Leech Industries’ successful apprenticeship program dates back to the 1970s. In fact, many of the team members making up our shop floor found their way to us through Leech Industries and state-sponsored tool and die maker training programs.
While our apprenticeship model has evolved over the decades, the spirit of learning on the job and the culture of career mobility remain strong. Today’s apprenticeships at Leech focus on modern production systems, and our talented apprentices learn the craft by gaining hands-on experience with our sophisticated equipment. Whether they stay at Leech Industries for the rest of their careers or venture elsewhere, the skills they acquire during their time here offer them a leg up in the industry and in life.
On-the-Job Training
Here at Leech Industries, we’re working to dispel the misconception that manufacturing careers require years of prior experience. New hires don’t need a lengthy resume—they need curiosity, a willingness to learn, and a respect for the craft. Once trained, employees can grow into specialized roles and be equipped with highly sought-after skills that open doors to opportunities at Leech and across the industry.
Organic, on-the-job training is critical to ensuring the success of our apprentices and new hires. Practical experience is the best teacher, and we offer structured learning paths that allow our team members to develop the skills they need to succeed in manufacturing. By collaborating with experienced mentors, young professionals at Leech can quickly build confidence and competence, transforming their roles into long-term, fulfilling careers.
Leech Industries’ apprentices have gone on to have successful careers. Some have stayed with Leech Industries their entire careers and become apprentice trainers themselves. Others have gone on to practice their skills for other companies while others have started their own companies. The common theme for all has been a drive to learn while working and have been able to build a career with no school debt.
Our Work with Schools and the Community
Even the best training programs can’t succeed without driven individuals ready to take part in them. That’s why Leech Industries partners with local high schools, co-ops, chambers of commerce, and government agencies to introduce students to exciting manufacturing opportunities.
For many young people, a four-year college degree has become the default path, leaving those who thrive outside the classroom unsure of where to begin their careers. At Leech Industries, we’re changing that by showcasing the value of trade careers. We highlight not only the satisfaction of hands-on, rewarding work but also the significant role manufacturing plays in shaping the world.
Investing in the Future of Contract Manufacturing
When our customers tour our facilities, they’re often impressed to see so many young professionals excelling in technical roles. This isn’t by chance; it’s the result of Leech’s long-term investment in our team. We’re creating opportunities that attract and retain skilled individuals to ensure that when our experienced team members eventually retire, they’ve successfully passed the torch on to a highly trained new generation.
This strategy of continuous training and development contributes to Leech’s stability and adaptability. We don’t rest on our laurels—Leech Industries is constantly evolving, growing, and preparing for what’s ahead next month, next year, and decades into the future.
Whether you’re a prospective employee looking to join our team or an OEM looking for a reliable partner, we look forward to showing you what we’re capable of.
